Having gone through a period of stressful and liberating change, from the loss of a parent to becoming a single man for the first time ever, Mark decided to embrace opportunity's knock. He was, after all, suddenly the only one to consider for the first time in his middle-aged life. He yearned for the Kruger National Park experience again, having missed going for 5 years, and decided, purely from a cost point of view to embark on a camping excursion. With a paying gig already arranged in the general area, a newly acquired slightly-used roof tent (affectionately renamed Roofie) timeously fitted atop his bakkie (light delivery van), he was left with no good reason not to.
What follows is five days of driving through the most beautiful parts of his beloved country all alone, enjoying the abundance and constraints of rural bushveld South Africa and her plethora of indigenous creatures. Throw in the humorous human interactions and the heart-wrenching circle of life moments, the awkward calls of nature stuck in the 'roofie' in the wee hours, and we have Mark Puddin’s SoloYOLO story.
A thoroughly absorbing and hilariously genuine dip in the South Africanese experiences of a typical ‘oke’ during his soul-restoring moments in the South African bushveld.

As a South African who has spent some time in the Kruger National Park I totally understand the "solo-ness" of soul searching and appreciation of wildlife in their natural habitat. I love Mark's use of South Africanisms and his experiences with the "roofie" (not what you're thinking). It made me want to grab a tent and head for the beauty of the Kruger Park and just be. It's a quick and easy read and I hope that Mark will write more about his travel experiences! At this stage, I'd be happy to read about a boring old shopping trip too, because he makes it sound interesting!Product details

SoloYOLO Mark in the Kruger National Park eBook Mark Groome Reviews
This was an amazing journey down memory lane and a reminder that I need to take my own trip back into and through the Kruger. Most properly not solo but with the family. 😜
Love the tales Mark told. Brought back many memories of when we used to visit the Kruger often.
Love the roofie idea too!
Look forward to your next adventure and it's tale )
Great story. It made me feel like I was there.
Full disclosure, I know Mark personally. The way he wrote this book is exactly the way he is...good natured, caring, humble and appreciative. Truly an all around good guy that I am fortunate to know. It's a great little read.
I follow Mark's posts on Facebook with somewhat regularity and have always enjoyed reading good writing. Buying the book to read about the whole trip without having to scroll through lots of posts was logical and so well worth the read.
The truthful journey of a man on his own venturing through the Kruger National Park. Nothing fake, just honest to goodness truths of his experience and mishaps. They enjoyment of the South African slang together with humor made for some giggles. Truly enjoyable! Can't wait for his next journey
I've met Mark, he is a big man. I can only imagine him in a tiny roof top tent. I can relate to what he is saying and really enjoyed the colourful words he chose to properly describe his experience in the Kruger. If you are South African, you can probably relate too, if not, he has a glossary at the back to bring you up to speed. Absolutely hilarious, loved it. Now can I teach you how to make a funnel?
